Trump: How Low Can He Go?

Donald Trump has an approval rating of 33% and the disapproval number is 62%. This marks a new (and well-deserved) low for Trump, but also begs the question - how can so many people still like him?

Let’s review where we are: The impact of this administration has hurt every aspect of our country from governmental programs, the planet, separation and balance of power, actually the entire Constitution, the rule of law, science and medicine, as well as inflation, the cost of everything, and more.  All the while killing people here and abroad.

There is a 61% disapproval of the war/not war/already won/sending troops in. Whatever Trump calls it, we are losing in Iran and Americans have no appetite for more.  A man, Pete Hegseth who could not run two small veterans' organizations is now in charge of the Pentagon. Last week he claimed the US help to bomb a narco-terrorist camp in Ecuador.  No, it was a dairy farm. h/t to Charlie Pierce.

Pete, most of us didn't believe trump when he said no more wars and no war with Iran but really...A huge majority of US citizens are horrified by killing children. While also committing war crimes, bombing infrastructure and making cows collateral damage.

In regard to Iran: the moral collapse and human cost is horrific.  The money spent already could solve an array of needed American projects from feeding children, expanding not shrinking healthcare and fixing our infrastructure. No one is bombing our bridges but that doesn't mean one won't fall on you, because our infrastructure has been Rated D+ by the Army Corps of Engineers.  Add to that the proliferation of potholes due to the recent snowstorms.

And don’t get us started on the airports.  Remember last year when Elon Musk’s DOGE was given total, unfettered autonomy and access to government systems to “save” us billions of dollars? Instead, we actually received higher costs, and damage to so many vital government functions. For example, when you lay off air traffic controllers to allegedly save money there are deadly consequences.

The tragic crash at LaGuardia Airport last week could have been much worse without the brave and expert actions of the two pilots who were killed.  Only two controllers were on duty then, overseeing the air and the ground. It takes 3 years to train a controller, after a vigorous vetting process.  As well as forced retirement earlier than most other professions.  Listen to John Oliver and you will plan staycations. Several airports have begun to delay and stagger incoming planes due to understaffed control towers.

Trump finally paid TSA workers (illegally?) because he cares deeply for the hardships they’ve enduring missing 3 paychecks. Oh my mistake, I meant because the midterms are looming.

Speaking of elections, voting is under its perennial attack by Republican legislators, who seeing how unpopular Trump’s rule has been, are redistricting and attempting to restrict the vote through a host of dubiously legal plots, attacking mail in ballots, the misnamed Save Act, and threatening to place ICE agents at polling stations. https://www.dontshopontuesday.com/post/vote-no-more-war-with-iran

Trump is underwater on every issue, including jobs, tariffs and his leitmotif, immigration. And then, of course and forever, there are the Epstein Files.  Despite the  DOJ and the FBI spending a year redacting Trump's name from these heinous documents, he still appears a million times! When you add it all up it’s clear this president ,and his administration, is failing at every level: policy, legislation and the basic work we expect from our elected leaders.

On Saturday > 8 million people came out to a No Kings March.  Throughout the country. Great people, funny signs.  It is always heartening to unite with friends and allies. But it’s important to put these marches in the proper context for resistance, they are the inspiring moment before the hard work begins. The people who protested are a fraction of those opposing trump and every single aspect of his administration.

Change takes sustained actions and attacking what the establishment values. Like money.

So, march.  Vote.  Contact your elected officials.  And then, Don't Shop on Tuesday.

United, growing, strong, sustained.
