I hate almost all rich people, but I think I’d be darling at it. Dorothy Parker this time and not Maurice Baring whom she credited for the above quote.The obvious meaning is that the absolute worst people are very, very rich.
I know this is out of flow, but I will not bury this headline: Mayor Mamdani secured a settlement of 131 million dollars from DoorDash to go to workers they cheated or delayed paying. No wonder corporate elites and their politicians hate this man so much. He is providing so much better than skyrocketing gas prices and people having food, healthcare and housing ripped away. Obviously. So, voters catch up by the first Tuesday in November.
It is being speculated that Dolly Parton was not a billionaire because she gave away so much money. Or a better theory is that as talented and brilliant and shrewd as she was, she didn't cheat, steal or hurt others. Parton wrote over 3000 songs which were covered by so many artists, plus her own work for decades. Over sixty years in show businesses with no bad habits and ongoing money from so many sources including the most popular song recorded by a woman. As AOC says you don't make a billion dollars, you take a billion dollars. So industrious, successful and kind people who give back will not add a zero to their net worth. Just my thoughts.
The Republicans are losing inre the November election…After almost two years of total corruption, cruelty and incompetence. Even MAGA folks have to put gas in their cars and shop for food, and high prices speak louder than excuses and obfuscation. How much more humane would it be if people were demanding change for the crimes, deaths, wars and cruelty? It should be a tsunami against Maga, but wait. There's more. Citizens United. Dark money. And now, made up money. Crypto. No rules or regulations. Most people don't understand it and that is the point. It's like a casino/ unless you control it/ you will probably lose. Sorry Trump, you somehow managed to bankrupt two casinos as well as a gazillions businesses and some meme coins. And coming soon, the world economy.
So now the hacks, um SC Justices, have decided that just because states control elections does not mean that this administration can't try to steal it. The majority of this ahem court has declared that the president can access a database of voters looking for so-called fraud and what have you. Did the justices who supported this even go to law school? Voting is the domain of the individual states. Who are you going to believe, Clarence Thomas or James Madison?
Is everyone, including the press too busy scrubbing their lettuce and throwing out soap and bleach to do something? I have a question. How greedy is this president? Does he think he can somehow take his stolen money with him? It's not as if he cared about anyone or anything to be grabbing it all day, every day. HIs thoughts are not, this could end hunger and make certain our planet is protected. A slight digression, too many rich folks who are immune from all societal laws and morals think they can dodge natural laws. Yes, someday you will die and yes again you are destroying our planet.
Where is the money from: The Kennedy Center as well as the priceless art and antiques housed there. The coughcough* Board of Peace. Venezuelan oil. Whatever the DOJ and the IRS have conspired to give him. The millions upon millions of bribes um payoffs from his pardons. Insider trading and the prediction market. His businesses, unlike all of his life heretofore, are bolstered by the US government. But I have faith in Trump. They will bottom out but he will make money. Trump TV lasted < 24 hours. Right-wing group ALEC has proposed legislation to protect corporations from any liability in causing climate change. There is nothing that companies can do from fraud to actual destruction that they would suffer any prosecution or punishment.Full corporate immunity. That being said- it's all about the money. Too much for one person or family hurts all of us. Elected officials fighting for us are rare but hopefully growing. Big business treating our planet as expendable. And no Elon you can't live on Mars.
We need combined financial heft as a cudgel to fight back this kleptocracy. Get angry. Fight. This is our country and should still be here for our children and grandchildren. Ditto the planet.
