Taking On the AI Overlords and Winning
With early voting underway in states across America we are starting to see some initial signs around how this extremely consequential election might go, and the signs currently seem promising towards a rather significant Blue Wave assuming the trends hold.
There are many reasons for this growing backlash against the Trump Administration: an unpopular War, High inflation and gas prices, tariff wars, rising costs and inafforability, Ice raids, and extrajudicial killings, the trampling of the constitution and the stench of corruption that lingers about every dealing of the federal government in this Administration to name a few. But an often overlooked one that has surprising bipartisan consensus is the rejection of the rampant growth of AI data centers. Thousands of these behemoths are being constructed across the United States and the economy itself is increasingly being bet - against our will - on this infrastructure build-out. Thank goodness it’s only destroying communities and the environment in the process. People are understandably angry, and they are letting their elected officials know in town halls across the country.
The amount of money flowing from this multi-trillion dollar investment boom means that members of both parties has certainly taken and supported AI data centers. However, only the Trump Administration has fully wedded themselves to the cause of replacing all human intellectual labor without any real plan for the future. Democrats have in many cases heard their constituents and savvily turned against such development.
Nonetheless in the face of such titanic forces for many it might feel hopeless. Like even an election can do little to affect the pace and build out of these centers. Despite their apparent inevitability we’re happy to say that appearance are not always reality and Taylor Frazier McCollum is living proof.
Taylor is the AI data center expert for green Party Governor candidate Andy Ellis in Maryland and her story as an organizer in Prince George’s County shows that you can still bring people together through old-fashioned organizing to stop development of an AI data center! Taylor makes it clear that its our actions and choices to treat each other as full humans, to go out and meet each other and build community are what safeguard us against these rapacious forces. We had an amazing talk with Taylor, please listen to our zoom chat with her. If you are in Maryland check out Andy Ellis’ candidacy and see if his platform speaks to you, it won Taylor’s support! But no matter where you are, or which of the specific issue drives you we at DSOT hope you get out and meet you fellow community members who feel as you do, there are more than you think. Together we can make a difference in our communities! So get out there, make sure you vote, and as always don’t shop on Tuesday.
