Oh Kentucky, Stop It

Mitch McConnell, you are certainly less of a threat to democracy now than you ever were as an elected official who showed up to work. Who could have foreseen that you, an 84-year-old with repeated health scares, would ever die in office?  Oh wait, the Republican controlled Kentucky state legislature that removed the power of the Governor (a Democrat) to appoint US Senate vacancies seems to have.  That happened last year.

The Constitution - remember that? - prevents any appointments to the House of Representatives/ the so-called peoples' house.  Ha and ha. But most elected executives can fill any other vacancies- often with themselves or sell it to the highest bidder.

Now if MM was the governor, he would find a way around that state requirement. The torturing of plain language statutes until they say whatever you want them to is Mitch McConnell’s specialty. Governor Beshear is whining to know (instead of taking action), like a typical establishment Democrat, if the Senator is dead while the countdown to the August 5^th deadline for his replacement ticks closer.  Also: we want to know where his wife is and what she was/is doing in China. 

Americans want a strong man not a strongman.  

I have often said one of the most problematic aspects of our current state of affairs is the legislative process.  Yes, we have corrupt, evil and lazy folks "serving" in government.  With everything for sale. Eunuch media/ too many judicial sellouts and buckets of money everywhere. Too few people understand the labyrinth that takes a bill to become a law.  And that cartoon doesn't really explain the full extent.

Sadly for our country, democracy, a fair government and judicious courts, McConnell could play such procedures like a violin. As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote:  a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.  He was referring to understanding new science and other ideas.  Not rigging Supreme Court nominations.  Do I even need to remind anyone about that....

So, Governor Beshear, I can't believe I am writing this, but be more like Mitch this time.  Determine his health status.  Make him resign or tell people to plan his funeral.  And then appoint Charles Booker.  If people yell, “you're breaking the law!” clarify.  Well, your AG found a loophole. So now the GOP cares about court decisions and enacted legislation?

And Rand Paul. Please for the love of all that is holy, stop.  You hate Dr. Fauci.  Ok.  Noted. But currently we have nepo-baby roadkill in charge of HHS.  Why are we questioning Fauci and not Bobby Jr. now?  Does the “oh no a trans person” ploy no longer work? Rand Paul actually set forth wrong information.  Surviving Covid does not mean you should not get the vaccine. And Senator, very few people have the health coverage you enjoy or the option of not doing their job like you. But that gets brushed aside while Megyn Kelly states that Dr. Fauci has done more harm than Jeffrey Epstein. Wow sex trafficked or made safe from disease.  Hard choice.  /s

Meanwhile, under This HHS Secretary RFK Jr., there is an deadly outbreak of explosive diarrhea. Because of DOGE, screwworms were not contained in South America and are harming the cattle industry here. Pretty soon, gasoline and eggs will be cheaper than beef.  People thought measles and polio were eliminated here, but nope, these scourges have returned with the rise of anti-vaccination attitudes. Historical note, MM had polio as a child but doctors and medicines cured him, so, use it as an excuse 8 decades later!

Instead of finding any help from the likes of Rand Paul, folks will soon have to illegally do insider trading to afford groceries and fuel. And doctors. The sickest part is, it’s not like there is nothing that needs investigating! Why don't Republicans inquire into why the government is advocating for flavored nicotine similarly to fruits and vegetables? This is just one thing that unregulated capitalism brings us!

The only way to fight this concentrated money is with aggregated financial heft.  Please sir, think of the country, children and democracy doesn't seem to be working. Shop locally six days each week and then don't make discretionary consumer purchases on Tuesday.
