Just One (for now) Tax on the Rich

Again, these properties are not the primary residence, by definition. Hmm.  Who could afford such a place in New York City? When not fixing potholes, washing down the subway and providing pet food for their humans in need, Mayor Mamdani has made Governor Hochul his sometime progressive partner.  Together they want to levy taxes on non-primary residences- from one to three- in the city. (Why stop at three?) 

What will these uber wealthy people do?  Be forced down to a half dozen homes, a few yachts and only one private jet?  Quel horreur. Btw this is supported by 93% of New Yorkers. That should be no surprise when this tax could raise as much as 500 million dollars annually and only affects 11,200 residents.  Or should I write- a small scattering of people usually not in NYC.

Can I add an amendment?  FIFA has rented cobwebbed retail space in Trump Tower for a year now and it has sat empty. Tax that as well. Oh, and Madison Square Garden. Folks with stagnant wages, concerned about their health coverage and not being able to afford gas, won't have such places in their real estate portfolio.  “Behind every great fortune lies a great crime.” - Balzac  “.... many crimes.” Barrie Friedland. Sorry for the constant repetition, but it is always about the money. Toujours.  We need to demonstrate clearly that we have aggregate financial heft. That the system is rigged and tax laws are beyond regressive. #DSOT is coming offline.

 We are growing but so is the corruption and destruction happening every day. The algorithms demonstrate expanding strategic spending patterns. But we are up against billionaires who don't seem to care about hunger, disease and safety for anyone but themselves.  

 Let's speed up the process.  #DSOT is simple, safe and elegant. People can be trained in a few minutes.  Shop locally six days a week. And then don't make discretionary consumer purchases on Tuesday. 

This is covid proof.  A protest even people with leprosy can join. Hello Floridians, #DSOT is safe to partake int.  You can't be shot or arrested.  Even the likes of Abbott or DeSantis cannot legislate against #DSOT. Don't stop doing whatever you are doing, of course, but add growing financial power.

And when Fox News et. al. yells Communism- au contraire- this is pure free market at work: Consumers making their voices heard through purchasing choices. Free market doesn’t just mean predatory ownership, stagnant wages and unsafe working conditions. As more workers face job insecurity due to exporting jobs, AI and rapacious management, our aggregate financial heft can provide a countervailing economic force on behalf of the precariat. In French les precariat.

Definition: The precariat is a term for people who lack job security, income, and social protection in the neoliberal economy.

To focus and hone our shopping is to help to deconstruct the horrors of today: the massive wealth gap and profit only driven companies. We can unite and demand change.  To support so many of the needed policies of the Democratic Socialist agenda by showing up and choosing when/where and how to shop.

Ironic. Remember healthcare/housing/water/food/a living wage should be the policies of every politician.
