Amazing Activist Fighting Illiteracy 1 Book at a Time

Welcome to the Don't Shop on Tuesday (DSOT) Zoomchat hosted by Jacob Kravetz and Barrie Friedland. Today we're joined by Tia, founder of Urban Reads Bookstore, and publisher of State vs. Us magazine, who has made it her life's mission to improve literacy, especially for the incarcerated and children of color, who disproportionately lack the resources and support systems to become confident readers. This Summer she is bringing the "Black Line Literacy Bus", distributing thousands of books to children across Maryland to disrupt the school to prison pipeline.

In this chat we discuss the importance of reading, and the transformative power of books. If you'd like to learn more please check out the links below, and consider getting involved in local literacy efforts.https://www.urbanreadsbookstore.com/https://www.urbanreadsfoundation.org/Donate: https://www.clover.com/pay-widgets/ff3d7f87-7012-4de5-99ba-54fc0601f954
