A Short Fairy Tale

There once was a man who wanted to be a King, or maybe dictator. It was hard to tell with him.  All his life he had money - his and other people's - and many who served him. He was never without a meal (or several) and chose to eat fatty chemical-filled food rather than nutritious choices that create health and vitality.

As a result, this man grew fat. Very fat. Morbidly obese. His fragile ego could not accept his corpulence, and so he spun outrageous lies about his weight likening his physique to athletes in their prime. Those who served him all nodded and agreed, but the children (and most of the people) could see the man who wanted to be king was very fat.

This man, who would be king lacked any compassion or humanity. He could not imagine that people, especially children could be hungry.  Or he simply didn't care. In his callous cruelty he destroyed 500 tons of food designated to feed children facing extreme hunger or famine. Instead of distribution, incineration. What was burned could have fed 27,000 starving children for a month.  Food full of substance and nourishment. 319 Million people in the world suffer from acute hunger and the man who would be king burns food.

There was another man who wanted to be the richest person in the world. This man was not as fat as the man who wanted to be king.  He showed the world his belly just to prove it.  He brought incompetence and cruelty and self-interest to fracture the federal government. Despite all his fortune he needed more, and he siphoned off billions and billions for himself.  If children had to go hungry or millions were ripped away from their health coverage, he thought that was a small price to pay. If he thought about that at all.  To make certain that no one could take his money (or sue him), he wanted to eliminate regulatory agencies and any office that could investigate him. Of course, in the process, millions of people were affected by his slashing of government funds and function, but again why would he care?

There was a lot of collateral damage as the second man teamed up with the first man and swung a wrecking ball through highly trained staff of government offices.  Besides the selfish goals listed above, tens of thousands of vital employees were fired either for amusement or as collateral damage.  There was no wisdom or knowledge of government guiding any of the dodgy DOGE actions. Not surprisingly, the government is more bloated, less efficient, and spends more now than it did before they started. Which does not concern them in the least.

Now the world is upside-down with the man who wanted to be king passing budget bills that explode hunger and robs people of medical care all the while calling it “beautiful.” In this upside-down world the media parrots this phrasing, and self-described Christians pray to deliberately increase hunger and throw millions of people off of healthcare. And all the while, cheering building concentration camps and increasing an illegal policing force. However shall we escape this upside down world? Is some knight in shining armor coming to save us?

Unfortunately, this is not a fairy tale. The monsters celebrating the cruelty and waste are here now.  Elon Musk basically eliminated USAID which is one of the most effective foreign policies that the US employs.  It is soft power that shows people in other parts of the world that we care and want to help.  Not just bomb them. In the spring, the World Food Programme and other organizations approached government officials to remind everyone that the food in the warehouse would expire in July.  Since Musk devastated the agency that would have distributed 500 tons of nutritious food, these groups offered to get it all to children who desperately needed it. But no, this administration chose to spend $130,000 more to burn the food.

There are no knights in shining armor to slay dragons and people like this.. Now is the time.  Stand up.  So many horrors are happening. It seems like all laws and constitutional dictates and norms are being sneered at and destroyed. It is a never-ending array of cruelty. Please focus through the madness. This isn't a fairy tale.  But even in fables, good wins and villains suffer.

#DSOT has consistently listed many actions we can take, and over time and in unity and cooperation, will make a difference

Economic protests can work.  Tesla.   And Target

Nothing will happen in a day or a short week of boycotts.  It is a long and sustained fight against very rich and selfish people. There are so many issues to be fought all at once. But we are here for the long struggle and the many victories. So shop locally.  Don't make any discretionary purchases on Tuesday.  And then, continue to demand that this country serve us and the world.
