It's amazing the damage a lie can cause. Lies about WMDs led us to a catastrophic war, lies about opioids have led to profound suffering, widespread addiction and death, and just one lie about vaccines and autism has undermined public trust in vaccinations and allowed the resurgence of long-vanquished diseases. This is the damage a lie can cause, and that is in spite of endless studies and meta-studies refuting the connection between vaccines and autism, not to mention the literal revocation of the medical license of the fraud who produced the garbage in the first place! The old saying about a "lie traveling halfway around the world while the truth is still getting its boots on" rings truer than ever. But while slow, the truth has the incredible advantage of reality on its side. Parents don't want their children exposed to more disease and danger, and the recent outbreaks of measles has caught people's attention. Despite a loud and vocal minority that catches the headlines, the American people remain united in their support of vaccinations.
Healthy children should be required to be vaccinated to attend public school because of the health risks to others.
Agree: 82%
Parents should be able to decide NOT to vaccinate their children, even if that may create health risks for others
Agree: 16%
While those numbers are encouraging, and in many other contexts overwhelming, they also demonstrate that voluntary adoption of vaccination won't be enough. The problem here, of course, is that through the the dynamics of herd immunity, vaccines are only effective in preventing contagious diseases like measles when 95% of the population receives the vaccination. Our government needs to do better protecting our children, by listening to the people and the latest available science. With people, profits and reality all aligned this is a fight we can win, and fast! Even under the best of circumstances, politicians are rarely leaders, and so if we are to bring democratic representation back to America and make a government by, of and for all of us, that protects our most vulnerable citizens with the latest medical knowledge, it will take a broad and enduring movement of people, demanding change and putting pressure on the powerful. We must do this for the sake of not just ourselves but all future generations! Join us every Tuesday, in growing solidarity and power until we take back our democracy from amoral special interests, and greedy politicians: Don't Shop on Tuesdays! ________________________________________________ Let friends and families, let them know about this growing movement, and how they can help us take back our democracy if they Don't Shop on Tuesdays!
