Statehood for Puerto Rico

Unrepresentative Policy - Puerto Rica State Hood

The people of Puerto Rico are tired of corrupt politicians and an unresponsive government. Some people may have become dispirited with the chronic corruption in government, on top of the devastating natural disasters and unbelievable hardships, but following in the best of the American tradition, the people of Puerto Rico have been organizing, protesting, and making sure the powerful hear and respect the voices of the people!  I

t should come as no surprise that such brave Americans, peacefully practicing their constitutional rights, in the face of malicious neglect and negligence are insulted and belittled by Trump and Republican leadership. Mitch McConnell goes so far as to claim giving all Americans, including those in Puerto Rico and DC representation in Congress is "full blown socialism". One can only imagine what such people would have said about the founding fathers and their calls for "no taxation without representation." Fortunately, as is so often the case, the American people are more just than leadership on Congress and believe more fully in the promise of America:

Would you favor or oppose having Puerto Rico be admitted as a state in the Union? Favor: 66% Oppose: 27%

This isn't just some passing fad either, support for statehood among Americans has been near or above 60% for over 50 years! Of course the people of Puerto Rico must ultimately be allowed to decide their own fate, but as Americans we must stand with all our fellow citizens and demand that no one should be a second class citizen in the United States, and as long as Puerto Rico remains a part of the USA, it must have full representation in the halls of power.

Puerto Ricans are in the streets right now, fighting for a more representative democracy, stand with them and DSOT!
