Unrepresentative Policy of the Week

Oppose National Emergency for Border Wall (66%): There are many problems facing our nation which could be considered a "national emergency," from the epidemic of gun violence, our falling life expectancy from massive opioid addiction, and the degradation of the critical environmental systems which sustain organized human society. One issue Americans agree is not worth calling a national emergency over is immigration at our southern border. 

In five different polls, since the beginning of 2019, at least 2/3 of Americans have said that they do not think calling a national emergency is appropriatefor this situation. Well over 50% have also stated both opposition to a government shutdown around disagreements over border security, and building a border wall period.

So of course, here in America, we get all three (or at least two of three, depending on how long Trump's memory lasts.)

This phony emergency and the surrounding chaos engulfing our federal government is merely the latest note in its song of apathy for the people of America and the world. We must compel our political leaders use the vast resources of our nation to promote the general welfare, and not go chasing phantasms in the night.
