They Don't Want You to Vote
I am afraid, nay petrified, about the elections in November.
There will be violence, crimes, and voter suppression if Trump can’t figure out how to rig the election beforehand. The Save the corrupt president and inept elected officials legislation was so toxic and simply undemocratic, it could not pass a GOP controlled Congress, but at we’ve seen time and again, Trump is incapable of taking no for an answer.
All things being equal and fair, the Democrats would crush this election. DNC, you could borrow a strategy from MAGA et. al.: Start saying and repeating over and over again. “Blue wave coming. Democrats will keep all 13 Senate seats and flip 9 more.” Pound this message out nonstop.
Back to reality. Ice will be out in force, voter suppression will be perpetrated in new and horrifying ways, and there is intentional ongoing confusion about mail-in voting. To illustrate just how outrageous Trump's restrictions are, this Supreme Court blocked them! For now. Justices Thomas and Alito were in the minority- whew- so the sun still rises in the east. For now. But make no mistake, polling places are/will be shut down in heavily democratic areas. And the lies. Oh those lies. About non issues.
Elon Musk is dropping a massive amount of money for these midterm elections. Thanks Citizens United./s. But luckily he is always wrong. Born rich and greedy. Yes. Bought other peoples' companies and only survived through government monies. Yes. There needs to be several investigations into his financial dealings. Yes and Yes. But thankfully the ketamine seems to dictating his political strategies. In a half dozen Senate races where the GOP candidate is in trouble, he is running ads about....trans men and women. Lies of course. Cue scary music about bathrooms, surgeries on children and sports. We can't pay our rent/ the children are hungry/their schools desperately need repairs and supplies but the restaurant which I can't afford to go to/ has an all gender bathroom.
Democratic candidates stay strong. That is not the problem. If you want to talk about children's sports: Abusive coaches are of greater concern. And PLEASE do not pivot to the right. Why include hate and lies? Too many are espousing anti-trans rhetoric. NOOOO. First of all, that is all MAGA has: ridiculous falsehoods. Your child is not going to school as a boy and coming home a girl. In reality, it’s the wealthy and powerful predators listed in the protected Epstein files are to be feared. If you can campaign on real issues, why do this?
It is shocking that around a third of the country still supports this administration. But the polls have been very inaccurate lately. GOP Senators cannot gerrymander a state. The lines have already been drawn. And since even the GOP saved this country from the SAVE Act, we have to believe that people will be safe and allowed to vote. Most are aware of some marque Senate races. Texas. Ohio. Alaska. South Carolina. Iowa. Maine. Yes, why not Florida. Nebraska. This is not to dismiss the many progressives now running for congress in a list too long to include.
Under the radar previously is Kansas. It is now reported that the Republican incumbent Senator had a long career as an OB/GYN doctor with a high percentage of poor and struggling patients. When people could not pay, were sued and missed their court dates, he had them arrested. His map of the state doesn't include all the counties and there are several mistakes. Plus, Trump has attacked a popular Canadian aerospace company in Kansas that has 1200 employees with the benefits of this rippling out.Let me reiterate. Is Idaho in p Nebraska and Iowa could be flipped from R to D. Again it can not be repeated enough.
Now don't get excited. If the election is only partially hijacked the Democrats will take over both houses of Congress. Not that most of them deserve this but there is an expanding group of progressives changing the party for the better. Yes, Trump can be impeached again. But it will take 67 votes in the Senate to convict him. A simple majority won't accomplish this unless enough GOP Senators finally respect our country and act to protect us.
What can be done? The Congress can take back its power. Let me check my notes about the Constitution. Congress is the lapdog of a corrupt, cruel and ignorant executive branch. NO. Let's hope that in 2027 our elected officials- aka employees-can start putting some folks in prison. And work to restore and enact so many policies and legislation most of us want and need and deserve. Stand up to the other two branches. Senator Tuberville- that would be the courts and the executive. Alabama, he doesn't have to be your problem alone. Don't elect him governor. But I digress again.
Angie Nixon in Florida is challenging an appointed incumbent who was part of the cabal that stole 10 million dollars from poor children needing healthcare. Hmm don't care some much about kids now do you? Please voters down there, get this one right. And a message writ large: Do not elect Hakeem Jeffries to be Speaker of the House. It is what Jared Kushner wants.
What to do??? Multi-task.
You can vote and also not shop on Tuesday. Protect your neighbors and country. Vote early if you can. Canvas for honest candidates dedicated to the public good. Give rides to the polls. Have a game plan if there is interference from ICE or any governmental agency. Be safe and smart.
