The other branches of government get their shoes on.
This past week we finally saw some stirrings life from the other branches of the federal government. After the Trump Regime seemed to be ignoring the 9-0 Supreme Court decision against them illegally renditioning an innocent man to an El Salvador torture camp multiple judges have written blistering decisions to check this lawless behavior, blocking various efforts by Trump’s goons at ICE.
On the Congressional side,Senator Chris Van Hollen showed true leadershipby using his political capital to publicly go down to El Salvador and pressure president Trump and Bukele into producing Kilmar Abrego Garcia for the world to see. Photos showing Garcia alive and speaking with Van Hollen are both relieving and an important crack in the armor of impunity asserted by Trump and his goons. The nation now waits with bated breath as court cases proceed, wondering if Trump will openly defy the orders when left with no legal wiggle room.
It appears that at least seven justices in the Supreme Court finally acknowledge the stakes and are unwilling to completely capitulate. On Sunday they signed an emergency 7-2 order at 1:00 a.m. ordering the Trump Administration to stop any further deportations to El Salvador. Some reports seem to suggest that buses on their way to the airport may have indeed turned around.
What's more, Van Hollen’s leadership seems to have inspired more action in Congress, withfour representatives now going down to El Salvador to continue the campaign to free all the individuals kidnapped and sent to CECOT.
These signs of struggle don’t come in a vacuum, outside the halls of power the people have also been rising, displaying massive discontent and resistance across the nation, confronting politicians and demanding answers. Despite what some democratic party pundits might have you believe, this is a winning issue, making those who would normally provide cover for the administration think twice as they consider their own political longevity. But more importantly, this is something we should fight for even if it weren't popular! That type of political triangulation is the very problem, not the solution.
We must keep up the effort, now is the time! The Trump Administration has shown that they might not be ready for this fight, so join us each Tuesday in growing solidarity, as we join together economic and political power. When the people, politicians, and the courts are working together we can ensure that no president can disappear people and flout our due process rights! We must stand together and
Don't shop on Tuesday.
