Unrepresentative Policy - Climate Crisis Series #10
Sometimes its hard to remember that before the current madness the United States was actually making strides towards tackling the climate crisis. Back in 2015 after years of intense negotiation the US joined nearly every country in the non-binding Paris Climate Accords. With this historic agreement the countries of the world had finally agreed to take the first steps in preventing the climate crisis. Tragically this was a non-binding agreement rather than a legal treaty due to the obstinate Republican controlled US Senate. Then came 2016 and the election of Trump, and with it withdrawal from the the Paris Agreement. Did Americans agree with this decision putting the United States at odds with nearly every country on earth along with all 99% of climate scientists? I think we all know the answer.
Do you think the US should participate in the Paris Climate agreement or not participate?
Participate: 69%
Once again our "representative" government has been anything but. With concern about the climate crisis rising every day, the position of Trump and the Republicans become ever more insane. We cannot let a reactionary sliver of our population destroy our environment and our futures. Americans are loud and clear on this issue, and we must act with urgency and purpose before its too late. The first, and easiest step for our government is to re-join the incredibly popular agreement it had already signed, but they won't if our voices aren't louder than greedy fossil fuel interests.
